Privacy Policy

Who we are

YouPress (youpress.news) is a live journalism platform: reporters stream geolocated live reports and publish their recordings; viewers can watch them and, for premium content, unlock them with credits.

What data we process

• Account data: email, display name, username, profile photo.
• Reporter profile (only if you activate the role): bio, topics, city — these are public.
• GPS location (reporters): required to start a live stream, it is the proof of authenticity of the report. The location shown to the public is approximate (~100 m); precise coordinates remain stored in our systems as an authenticity metadata.
• Location (viewers): the map may ask for your position to center on where you are. It is used only on your device to position the map and is not stored on our servers. You can deny it.
• Content: live stream videos (recorded server-side), comments, chat messages.
• Credits and transactions: wallet balance and movements (purchases, pay-per-view unlocks, live requests, payouts).
• Payment data: when you buy credits or, as a reporter, request a payout, the payment and banking details are collected and processed directly by Stripe(our payment provider). We receive only the information needed to confirm the transaction (e.g. amount, status); we do not store full card numbers or bank account details.
• Technical data: logs and essential cookies required for the service to work (e.g. login session).

Why we process it

• To provide the service (performance of contract): accounts, live streams, publishing, unlocks, payments and payouts.
• To guarantee the authenticity of reports (legitimate interest and the very nature of the service).
• Security, fraud prevention, abuse prevention and content moderation.

Where your data lives (processors)

We rely on the following providers, each acting as a data processor for the relevant part of the service:

• Supabase — database and file storage (EU).
• LiveKit Cloud — live video streaming.
• Vercel — application hosting, plus privacy-friendly traffic statistics and performance metrics (Vercel Web Analytics & Speed Insights): aggregated and anonymous, without tracking cookies.
• Stripe — payments (credit purchases) and payouts to reporters (Stripe Connect). Stripe may process data outside the EU under appropriate safeguards.

Cookies

We use only essential (technical) cookies, which do not require consent:

• Authentication session: keeps you logged in (set by Supabase).
• Preferences: e.g. light/dark theme, stored on your device.
• Stripe: on payment pages, Stripe may set cookies for security and fraud prevention.

For audience statistics and performance we use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights: aggregated, anonymous measurements that do not set tracking cookies and do not profile you. We do not use advertising or profiling cookies. See the full Cookie Policy.

Your rights

You can request access, rectification, deletion of your data and portability by writing to privacy@youpress.news. You can delete your account at any time; published content can be removed upon request, subject to legal obligations.

Note: this is a preliminary version of the Privacy Policy, covering the prototype phase of the platform. It will be updated and legally reviewed before public launch.
